Annah-Ololade Sangosanya
Biography
Annah-Ololade first studied biological engineering the the National Institute of Applied Science (INSA) of Toulouse, France where she got her Masters of engineering in Biology. She focused specifically on microbiology, molecular biology and genetical engineering and industrial processes, and is passionate about the environment. One of her main goals is to use her scientific background for sustainable purposes and help not turn this planet into a hell. She is also interested in fashion, a very polluting industry, and would like to change it for the better. She continued her studies after her masters to study the Fabricademy, textile and technology academy postgraduate (FabLab Barcelona) where she learnt how to use new technologies and digital fabrication (3D design, rapid prototyping, electronics) for more sustainable textile design. During her final project, she investigated the biodegradation of textile waste using mycelium, thus combining the fields of biology and textile design.
For a year, she has been working independently on this project, developing a myco-materials Biolab at the Paraguay Project design space studio in Barcelona in partnership with Jessica Kate Dias, founder of SBiotica. During that year, she transformed the small research she had been carrying as her postgraduate final project into a more developped PhD project she will be carring at VUB. The focus of her work is to develop a biological textile recycling system using a fungal bacterial consortium, focusing on cotton and polyester fibers, and exploring how the biomass generated in the process can be revalorized into a mycelium leather material.
