Brendan Schroyen
Biography
I obtained my Master of Science in Bioengineering Sciences with a specialization in Cell and Gene Biotechnology: Molecular Biotechnology degree from Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB) in 2020. I have a strong passion for extremophiles, particularly halophiles, and my research primarily focuses on the exciting field of bioplastics. In 2021 I received an FWO-SB grant for my project titled 'Synthetic biology engineering of the halophilic archaeon Haloferax mediterranei as a cell factory for tailor-made polyhydroxyalkanoates.' This grant has been instrumental in advancing my research and contributing to the field of extremophile biotechnology.
In addition to my research, I take on the role as the Virtual Conference Coordinator for the board committee of Archaea Power Hour, a community dedicated to promoting collaboration and knowledge sharing in the realm of archaea research. Since February 2021, I've had the privilege of playing a role in advancing the mission of Archaea Power Hour.
